The Nigeria Police Force has disowned a purported press release circulating online which claims that the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, had directed the commencement of training for 50,000 newly recruited police constables.
The Force described the document as fake, stressing that it was neither issued nor authorised by the Nigeria Police Force.
The purported statement, titled, “IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu Directs Commencement of Training for 50,000 Newly Recruited Police Constables,” is reportedly being circulated with the name and designation of the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu.
In a disclaimer, the Police urged members of the public, particularly applicants involved in the ongoing recruitment process, to disregard the information contained in the document.
The Force advised recruitment candidates to obtain updates only from the official Police recruitment portal and verified communication platforms of the Nigeria Police Force.
According to the Police, efforts are already underway to identify those behind the production and circulation of the fraudulent document.
The Force further warned that anyone found responsible would face appropriate legal action.
The development comes amid heightened public interest in police recruitment, with the Police urging applicants to exercise caution and avoid relying on unverified messages circulating on social media and other unofficial platforms.
The Nigeria Police Force reiterated that authentic announcements concerning recruitment, training and other official activities would be communicated through its recognised channels.
