The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has inspected 23 police barracks across the country as part of efforts to assess the welfare and living conditions of police personnel and their families.
According to a press statement issued on Sunday by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, the inspection covered residential quarters and other welfare facilities, with the IGP assessing their condition and identifying areas requiring urgent intervention, rehabilitation and sustained investment.
The exercise also provided the Force leadership with an opportunity to engage directly with personnel and residents and obtain first-hand information on the challenges affecting their living conditions.
The inspection highlighted various infrastructure and welfare needs requiring administrative attention, while providing a basis for practical measures to address identified gaps across the barracks.
Disu stressed that personnel welfare remains an important aspect of the ongoing efforts to strengthen the Nigeria Police Force, noting that decent accommodation and functional welfare facilities are essential to maintaining officers’ morale, wellbeing and effectiveness.
The IGP assured personnel that concerns identified during the exercise would receive appropriate attention, particularly areas considered to require immediate intervention.
He further emphasised the importance of sustained investment in police accommodation and welfare infrastructure, saying improved living conditions would help create a more conducive environment for officers and their families.
The inspection is also expected to strengthen administrative responsiveness to infrastructure challenges within police barracks and promote evidence-based interventions in addressing the welfare needs of personnel.
Disu reiterated that police officers who dedicate themselves to protecting lives and property deserve decent and conducive living conditions, adding that improved welfare is critical to building a motivated, professional and effective police force.
The Force leadership said it would continue to pursue measures aimed at improving the wellbeing of personnel and their families through investment in accommodation, welfare infrastructure and other support systems.
The initiative forms part of the broader efforts of the Nigeria Police Force to enhance personnel welfare while strengthening the capacity of officers to effectively discharge their constitutional responsibilities.
