The Bayelsa State Commissioner of Police, CP Ajao Adewale, is seeking greater collaboration between journalists in the state and the Police Command in the fight against crime and insecurity.
CP Adewale made the call on Wednesday, September 2, 2026 during a courtesy visit to NUJ State Council Chairman, Comrade Tonye Yemoleigha and leaders of the Union at the Ernest Ikoli Press Centre, Yenagoa.
Describing the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, as a critical partner in public safety, the Police Commissioner said security remains a shared responsibility.
“Under my watch, the Nigerian Police will create the enabling environment for everyone to perform their lawful duties without fear or intimidation,” CP Adewale assured.
He also announced that his command would operate an open-door policy, giving the press 24-hour access to report incidents and alert the command to happenings in the society.
Responding to issues of internal discipline and drug abuse, the CP said discipline is the foundation of the Nigeria Police, while warning officers in the state against acts of indiscipline and violation of operational guidelines.
CP Adewale further pledged sustained collaboration with sister security formations, the NDLEA, the State Ministry of Health, and other relevant agencies to tackle crime and drug abuse. He added that his command would ensure adequate policing across all parts of the state.
Earlier, the Chairman of NUJ Bayelsa State Council, Comrade Tonye Yemoleigha, welcomed the new CP to Bayelsa State.
Comrade Yemoleigha assured him of Journalists and the media’s readiness to always work in synergy with the police in the interest of peace, national security and development.
The NUJ Chairman thanked CP Adewale for the visit and expressed optimism that the Union’s leadership would foster a sustained relationship with the Police.
Also speaking, the Zonal Secretary of the NUJ, Comrade John Angese, commended the Commissioner for the visit and prayed for his elevation upon the successful completion of his assignment in the state.
