The Depot Nigerian Army, Zaria, has held a farewell ceremony for a group of discharged Master Warrant Officers, commending them for their years of dedicated service to the Nigerian Army and the nation.
The ceremony, held on Friday, October 2, 2026, at the conference room of the institution, was attended by the Commandant, Brigadier General Usman Ahmad, principal staff officers and heads of departments.
Addressing the discharged soldiers, Brigadier General Ahmad urged them to maintain peaceful relationships with the communities where they would settle after leaving active military service.
He encouraged them to remain good ambassadors of the Nigerian Army by conducting themselves responsibly and contributing positively to society.
The Commandant also advised the retirees to remain physically and mentally active by engaging in productive hobbies and other extracurricular activities, noting that life outside active service would provide them with more time to pursue interests beyond their former daily military routines.
He expressed appreciation to the discharged Master Warrant Officers on behalf of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, for their contributions and sacrifices in the service of the country.
Ahmad wished them success and fulfilment as they begin the next phase of their lives.
Responding on behalf of the discharged personnel, the outgoing Regimental Sergeant Major of Depot Nigerian Army, Master Warrant Officer Joshua Agwaru, expressed appreciation to the Commandant for his mentorship, guidance and support throughout his tenure.
Agwaru assured the Commandant and the Nigerian Army that the discharged personnel remained willing to offer their experience and services whenever called upon to contribute in other capacities.
The event featured goodwill messages and words of advice from officers, as well as the presentation of souvenirs and gift items to the discharged personnel by the Commandant.
The ceremony ended with group photographs to commemorate the occasion.
