Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK), has received national recognition from the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) for its outstanding contributions to digital literacy, inclusive education and community development under the leadership of its Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sa’adatu Hassan Liman.
The university received the Academic-Community Digital Integration Award in recognition of its efforts to expand digital literacy beyond the classroom and equip individuals and communities with essential digital skills.
The award was presented to Professor Liman by the Director-General of NITDA, Mr Kashifu Abdullahi Inuwa, during a Digital Literacy Workshop held on October 20, 2026, at the UBEC Digital Resource Centre in Abuja.
A major factor highlighting the university’s achievement is its reported reach of 14,194 participants through digital literacy initiatives, including 100 persons with disabilities. Women accounted for 51.8 per cent of the beneficiaries, reflecting the institution’s commitment to inclusive participation and equal access to digital opportunities.
The recognition underscores NSUK’s efforts to bridge the digital divide by extending technology-driven learning and digital skills development to communities beyond the university environment.
It also highlights the institution’s growing role in promoting digital inclusion, strengthening community engagement and supporting national development through education, research and technological innovation.
Under Professor Liman’s leadership, NSUK has continued to pursue institutional transformation through strategic partnerships with government agencies, industry stakeholders and development partners to improve teaching, learning and research.
These collaborations are aimed at strengthening the university’s academic capacity, expanding access to modern technological resources and creating opportunities for sustainable institutional growth.
The NITDA award also reflects the university’s emphasis on connecting academic knowledge with practical community needs, particularly as digital competence becomes increasingly important in education, employment, entrepreneurship and public service.
The workshop, themed “Measuring Progress, Strengthening Partnership and Accelerating Impact,” brought attention to the need for sustained collaboration, capacity building, skills acquisition, technological innovation and research to accelerate digital literacy across the country.
One of the major highlights of the event was the launch of the National Digital Literacy Dashboard, alongside the presentation of awards of excellence to distinguished individuals recognised for their contributions to the education sector and national development.
In a reciprocal gesture, Professor Liman presented a Letter of Appreciation to the NITDA Director-General, Mr Inuwa, acknowledging his support and contributions to the growth and development of NSUK and the country.
The recognition represents another milestone in the university’s development and reinforces its commitment to inclusive education, digital innovation and community service.
For NSUK, the award further demonstrates the importance of sustained investment in digital skills and partnerships that connect universities with the wider society, while positioning education as a key driver of technological advancement and national progress.
