The National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) has appointed Mrs. Ramatu O. Ibrahim as Acting Bursar following the death of the university’s substantive Bursar, Mallam Nasir G. Marafa.
The appointment, which takes effect from Tuesday, September 8, 2026, was approved by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Uduma Oji Uduma, with the concurrence of the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Malam Isa Yuguda, CON.
The Registrar of the university, Mr. Oladipo Ajayi, disclosed the development in a public notice issued on Tuesday.
According to the Registrar, the decision was taken to maintain administrative continuity and ensure effective management of the institution’s financial affairs following the unexpected loss of the substantive Bursar.
The appointment will remain in effect until further notice.
Mrs. Ibrahim, who previously served as Deputy Bursar, Treasury, brings considerable experience to the new position, having worked across several key areas of the university’s Bursary Department.
Her professional experience covers accounting, financial administration, treasury management and other related institutional processes.
In her previous capacity as Deputy Bursar, Treasury, she was responsible for providing leadership and oversight in the management of NOUN’s treasury operations.
The university said her familiarity with its financial systems and administrative procedures would enable her to provide effective leadership while sustaining efficient and accountable financial services.
Management also expressed confidence that the Acting Bursar would carry out her responsibilities with diligence, professionalism, integrity and commitment to the institution.
Meanwhile, the university management paid tribute to the late Mallam Nasir G. Marafa, describing him as a committed and dependable officer who served NOUN with professionalism and integrity.
According to the university, Marafa made valuable contributions to the institution’s financial administration and broader development, noting that his services would be remembered with appreciation.
The Vice-Chancellor, on behalf of the university management, congratulated Mrs. Ibrahim on her appointment and wished her a successful tenure.
The university community was also urged to give the Acting Bursar the cooperation and support required for her to effectively discharge the responsibilities of the office.
