The newly deployed Commissioner of Police in Abia State, CP Wilfred Afolabi, has called for stronger collaboration between the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigerian Army to enhance security and peaceful coexistence across the state.
According to a press release signed by the Assistant Director Army Public Relations, 14 Brigade Nigerian Army, Captain Mazinho Attah, CP Afolabi made the call on Friday, August 28, 2026, during a courtesy visit to the Commander, 14 Brigade Nigerian Army, Brigadier General AM Dikko, at the Brigade Headquarters in Ohafia.
The visit, according to the statement, formed part of the Commissioner’s stakeholder engagement following his assumption of office as the Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command.
During the meeting, Afolabi outlined his priorities for the command, particularly in the areas of peace and security, intelligence gathering and sharing, community safety outreach and enhanced police visibility.
The Commissioner stressed the importance of effective intelligence gathering and timely information sharing among security agencies, describing the measures as critical to preventing crime and responding effectively to emerging security challenges.
He also emphasised the need for stronger engagement between security agencies and communities, noting that closer interaction with members of the public would help build trust, encourage the timely provision of useful information and strengthen community-based security efforts.
Responding, the Commander of 14 Brigade, Brigadier General AM Dikko, welcomed the Commissioner and his delegation, congratulating him on his assumption of office and assuring him of the Brigade’s continued support and cooperation.
Dikko noted that a coordinated approach among security agencies was essential to tackling security challenges, protecting lives and property, and sustaining peace across Abia State.
The visit featured the signing of the visitors’ book, presentation of souvenirs and a group photograph, underscoring the commitment of both security formations to intelligence-led operations, community engagement, increased security visibility and closer inter-agency cooperation.
