The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) have expressed readiness to strengthen institutional cooperation and explore areas of mutual support to improve their operations.

The Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, received the JAMB Registrar, Professor Segun Aina, and his delegation on Friday, October 16, 2026, at the NCS Operational Headquarters in Maitama, Abuja, where both organisations discussed opportunities for collaboration.

Adeniyi commended JAMB for its transformation over the years, particularly its adoption of technology, timely release of examination results and improved processes for placing candidates in tertiary institutions.

He described the Board’s progress as commendable, noting that technology had helped make its operations more efficient and improved service delivery.

“The improvement JAMB has recorded over the years, particularly through the integration of technology into its operations, is commendable. The Board has continued to evolve, making its processes more efficient and improving the placement of candidates into tertiary institutions,” Adeniyi said.

The Customs boss also expressed confidence in the new Registrar’s ability to sustain the Board’s achievements, urging the management team to support his leadership in advancing its mandate.

On JAMB’s offer to provide access to its electronic facilities, Adeniyi welcomed the proposal, explaining that Customs officers deployed across the country sometimes need to gather at designated centres for examinations and other official activities.

He said access to the facilities would help the Service organise such exercises more efficiently whenever the need arose.

Adeniyi also acknowledged JAMB’s request for operational vehicles, noting that mobility was essential to the Board’s nationwide responsibilities.

He assured the delegation that the Service would explore possible avenues for assistance, subject to the availability of resources and the applicable framework.

Earlier, Aina said the visit was intended to establish a professional relationship between the two institutions and identify areas where they could support each other’s operations.

“We want to formally come and introduce ourselves. We recognise the important work the Nigeria Customs Service is doing and are aware of the operations you carry out,” the Registrar said.

He disclosed that JAMB serves approximately five million people annually, operates Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres across Nigeria and conducts examinations in more than 15 countries.

According to him, the Board also provides electronic services to government agencies and professional bodies, demonstrating its capacity to support other institutions through technology-driven solutions.

Aina further stressed the importance of operational mobility in enabling JAMB officials to reach communities, including local government areas, to verify candidates and ensure compliance with examination standards.

The meeting ended with both organisations expressing their commitment to exploring practical areas of cooperation, sharing available resources and addressing institutional needs to improve operational efficiency.
