The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has commenced preparations for the 2027 general elections with plans to constitute a Presidential Campaign Council for the territory.
The move followed an emergency meeting of the party’s State Executive Council held on Friday, August 28, 2026, and convened by the FCT APC State Chairman, Hon. Ishaku Tanko Yamawo, alongside the party leader in the territory and Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Relations, Hon. Zephaniah Bitrus Jisalo.
According to a statement issued by the APC FCT Deputy Publicity Secretary, Muhammad Kabir Abubakar, the meeting brought together members of the State Executive Council, party leaders, candidates and elected officials to review preparations for the 2027 elections.
Those in attendance included former Senate Minority Leader and APC FCT Senatorial Candidate, Senator Philip Tanimu Aduda; APC candidate for AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency, Hon. John Gabaya; APC candidate for Abuja-South Federal Constituency, Hon. Danladi Chiya; as well as the Executive Chairmen of Kwali, Kuje and Bwari Area Councils, Hon. Ibrahim, Hon. Samuel Danjuma Shekwolo and Hon. Joshua Musa respectively.
Addressing the meeting, Jisalo directed the party leadership to commence immediate steps towards establishing the APC FCT Presidential Campaign Council.
He also presented a proposed framework for the council and urged party leaders to identify credible, experienced and committed members capable of effectively driving the party’s campaign across the Federal Capital Territory.
Jisalo expressed optimism about the APC’s chances in the FCT, citing the infrastructural and human development initiatives of the administration as part of the issues the party intends to take to the electorate.
He stressed the need for the party to effectively communicate its achievements to residents, particularly at the grassroots, while urging members to strengthen their mobilisation efforts across the six Area Councils.
“APC has no reason to fail in the FCT,” Jisalo said, as he appealed to party leaders, candidates, elected officials and other stakeholders to put aside personal differences and work towards the collective interest of the party.
He maintained that the party’s success in the 2027 elections would depend largely on unity, discipline, proper coordination and sustained grassroots mobilisation.
The meeting further resolved that the proposed composition of the Presidential Campaign Council would be harmonised before being presented for consideration and adoption at another meeting expected to take place next week.
Following its adoption, the final composition is expected to be forwarded to the APC National Secretariat for further consideration and necessary action.
The proposed campaign structure is also expected to improve coordination between the party leadership and its structures at the Area Council, ward and polling-unit levels across the FCT.
In his remarks, Senator Philip Tanimu Aduda commended the State Executive Council for beginning preparations early, describing the initiative as a step in the right direction.
Aduda urged party stakeholders to remain focused on the collective goal of strengthening the APC and securing victory for the party in the FCT in the 2027 elections.
The emergency SEC meeting, according to the statement, marks the beginning of a coordinated effort by the FCT APC leadership to build a campaign structure capable of effectively taking the party’s message to communities and mobilising support across the territory ahead of the polls.
