Imo indigenes resident in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, under the aegis of the Forum of Imo Democrats (FIMD), have declared their support for Attorney Charles Onyirimba, the Action Democratic Party (ADP) candidate for Imo North Senatorial District in the 2027 National Assembly election.
The group, comprising Imo citizens drawn from the academia, media, political parties, religious organisations, traditional institutions and the private sector, made its position known in a statement issued after its enlarged meeting held in Abuja on September 24, 2026.
The forum said its members had resolved to work collectively towards promoting what they described as purposeful and accountable democratic leadership in Imo North Senatorial District and Imo State.
According to the statement, the emergence of Onyirimba as a candidate for the National Assembly race represents an opportunity for a new chapter in the political representation of the senatorial district.
The group also commended his commitment to the development of Imo State and his advocacy for good governance, expressing the belief that his legal background and experience would contribute to effective legislative representation if elected.
The FIMD said Onyirimba could play a significant role in attracting development to rural communities across the six local government areas that make up Imo North Senatorial District.
It further expressed confidence that he would sponsor legislative proposals and support policies aimed at strengthening democratic institutions and addressing socio-economic and infrastructural challenges affecting constituents.
The group stated that it would mobilise support for the ADP candidate ahead of the 2027 election, while urging eligible voters in the district to participate actively in the electoral process.
It said, “Having shown enormous capacity and has a track record of excellence as an erudite lawyer and statesman, there are no doubts that Attorney Charles Onyirimba would provide efficient, effective and responsive representation that would place Imo North Senatorial District on highest pedestal of socio-economic and infrastructural development when supported to emerge as winner of the forthcoming main elections in 2027.”
The Imo citizens in Abuja subsequently pledged to rally support for Onyirimba and mobilise votes for his senatorial bid across the six local government areas of Imo North.
The forum also appealed to eligible Imo voters to make responsible use of their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and participate in the election of representatives at the various levels of government.
The group maintained that citizens should use the electoral process to choose candidates they believe can provide effective representation and contribute to the development of their communities.
