The Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) has received the Pillars of Integrity in Public Service Award 2026 at an event organised by Verbatim Magazine in recognition of institutions identified among the top 100 Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) in the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) Ethics and Integrity Compliance Scorecard (EICS) 2025.
The award ceremony was held on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, at the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua Centre, Abuja.
The NDIC was represented at the ceremony by Hauwau Gambo, Head, Communication and Public Affairs Department, who received the award on behalf of the Corporation and its Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Thompson Oludare Sunday.
Speaking briefly with journalists after receiving the award, Gambo expressed appreciation for the recognition, describing it as a consolidation of the values for which the NDIC stands.
“I feel so great. It’s a consolidation and a symbol of what NDIC stands for,” she said.
According to her, integrity and compliance are particularly important to the NDIC because of its role as a regulator in the financial sector and its responsibility for protecting depositors, especially in the event of bank failure.

“As a regulator in the financial sector, charged with the responsibility of protecting depositors’ funds, especially in the event of bank failure, we are there standing as a financial safety net to the people, small savers,” Gambo said.
She explained that when a bank fails, the NDIC steps in to reimburse eligible depositors, making adherence to established standards, rules and regulations central to the Corporation’s operations.
“When a bank fails, the NDIC steps in to reimburse them. So in that sense, we have to uphold those standards of integrity, of compliance to the rules and regulations. It is critical in our work, and this award just goes to show that we are doing the right thing,” she said.
Gambo stressed that the recognition would not make the Corporation complacent, saying the NDIC would continue to improve its standards and strengthen its operations.
“It’s a recognition, and we don’t look at it as something to just relax. We will not rest on our oars. We’ll continue to forge forward and become even better and stronger,” she said.
The Verbatim Pillars of Integrity in Public Service Award 2026 was based on editorial profiling derived from the ICPC Ethics and Integrity Compliance Scorecard 2025.
The recognition underscores the NDIC’s commitment to integrity, compliance and professionalism in the discharge of its mandate of protecting depositors and contributing to the stability of Nigeria’s financial system.
