The Chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) and Chairman of the FCT chapter of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Hon. Christopher Zakka Maikalangu, has commended the Igbo community in the Federal Capital Territory for its growing political engagement and commitment to inclusive leadership.
Maikalangu made the remarks on Sunday, September 6, 2026, at a grand reception organised in honour of former FCT Senator, Distinguished Senator Philip Tanimu Aduda, MFR, CON, where community leaders and political stakeholders expressed support for his anticipated return to the Senate in 2027.
According to a press statement issued by Kingsley Madaki, Chief Press Secretary to the AMAC Chairman and FCT ALGON Chairman, the event was hosted by the Chairman of the Igbo Council of Chiefs in the FCT, Dr. Uche Egenti.
The gathering attracted traditional representatives, political leaders, community stakeholders and supporters who came together to honour Aduda and discuss his political future ahead of the 2027 elections.
Maikalangu attended the event alongside his Chief of Staff, Hon. Emeka Orji, and the Supervisory Councillor for Education, Hon. Obiora Arinze.
Also present were the FCT APC Chairman, Hon. Isyaku Tanko Yamawo, Executive Chairmen of AMAC, Bwari, Gwagwalada and Kuje Area Councils, APC House of Representatives candidates for Abuja North and Abuja South, as well as other party leaders and stakeholders.
Speaking at the occasion, Maikalangu described the gathering as a demonstration of political unity and growing awareness among residents of the FCT.
He said Aduda’s experience in the National Assembly, familiarity with the territory and relationships across different communities had positioned him to effectively articulate the interests of FCT residents at the national level.
“This gathering is a clear demonstration that the people of the FCT understand the importance of unity and strategic representation.
“Senator Philip Aduda has built relationships across communities and has remained connected to the people. His experience, accessibility and understanding of the FCT make him a strong voice for our people,” Maikalangu said.
The AMAC Chairman also praised the Igbo community for its contributions to the growth and development of Abuja, particularly through commerce, entrepreneurship and social activities.
“The Igbo community is an integral part of Abuja. You have contributed tremendously to the growth of our city, and today’s gathering shows that you are not only stakeholders in the development of the FCT but also active participants in shaping its political future,” he said.
Maikalangu urged political leaders and community stakeholders to sustain peaceful engagement and inclusive politics as preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum.
“As we approach 2027, what we need is unity, understanding and leaders who will put the collective interest of the FCT above personal considerations. We must continue to work together across ethnic, religious and political lines for the progress of our people,” he added.
He also commended Dr. Egenti and the Igbo Council of Chiefs for organising the reception, describing it as an important platform for dialogue and stronger relationships among the diverse communities in the FCT.
The statement said the reception ended with participants expressing confidence in Aduda and pledging support for his return to the Senate in 2027.
The event further highlighted the growing importance of community consultations and cross-community political engagement as political stakeholders intensify preparations for the 2027 elections.
