The Government of Israel has donated a consignment of ambulances, medical equipment and mobility aids to Nigeria as part of efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery and emergency medical response in the country.
The first batch of the humanitarian assistance was handed over at the Port of Ashdod in Israel by Magen David Adom (MDA), Israel’s national emergency medical service, on behalf of the Israeli government.
Nigeria’s Ambassador to Israel, Ambassador Nkechi Ufochukwu, received the consignment on behalf of the Federal Government.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, Ufochukwu expressed Nigeria’s appreciation to the Israeli government for the gesture, describing the donation as a significant intervention that would contribute to improving healthcare services and emergency response in Nigeria.
She said the equipment would be particularly valuable in supporting communities with limited access to critical medical services, while also strengthening the capacity of hospitals and emergency response centres.
The consignment comprises fully equipped ambulances, modern medical equipment and wheelchairs, which are expected to be deployed to relevant healthcare facilities and emergency centres across Nigeria.
The donation is also expected to enhance Nigeria’s capacity to respond to medical emergencies, accidents and disasters while improving patient care and mobility support for people in need.
The ambassador described the intervention as a reflection of the growing relationship between Nigeria and Israel, particularly in the areas of healthcare, humanitarian assistance, technology and capacity building.
“We deeply appreciate Israel’s commitment to saving lives and deepening bilateral ties. This donation is a clear demonstration of friendship and solidarity between our two nations,” Ufochukwu said.
Officials of Magen David Adom, representatives of Israel’s Ministry of Health and officials of the Nigerian Embassy in Tel Aviv witnessed the handover.
The development further highlights the expanding cooperation between the two countries in healthcare and humanitarian services, with both sides seeking to strengthen partnerships capable of delivering practical benefits to citizens.
