The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, hold a World Press Conference and National Stakeholders’ Meeting in Abuja as the countdown to the 2027 General Election reaches 100 days.
According to a press statement issued in Abuja by Adedayo Oketola, Chief Press Secretary/Media Adviser to the INEC Chairman, and obtained by Oxford Reporters, the commission will use the occasion to provide updates on its preparations for the forthcoming elections.
The statement said the briefing would cover key areas including the voters’ register, candidate nominations, election logistics and measures being put in place to strengthen the integrity of the electoral process.
It added that the event would be addressed by the INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, SAN, alongside other key stakeholders in the electoral process.
According to the statement, the national stakeholders’ meeting is part of the commission’s commitment to transparency, proactive public communication and sustained engagement with stakeholders across the electoral ecosystem.
Participants expected at the meeting include political party leaders, security agencies under the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES), members of the diplomatic corps, development partners, civil society organisations, election observer groups, disability rights advocates, religious and traditional leaders, youth organisations and media executives.
The event is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 6, at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre (BAT-ICC), Abuja.
The commission said attendance would be strictly by invitation, while the event would be broadcast live on major national television networks and streamed through INEC’s official social media platforms.
It further advised accredited media representatives and invited guests to present their invitation cards or accreditation badges at security checkpoints.
The 100-day milestone marks a significant stage in preparations for the 2027 General Election, with INEC expected to use the engagement to update Nigerians and other stakeholders on the commission’s readiness for the polls.
