The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has dismissed as fake an artificial intelligence-generated video circulating on social media, purportedly showing the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Olufemi Oluyede, making statements suggesting partisan political support.
In a statement issued on Thursday, August 27, 2026, the Director, Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, said the video did not emanate from the Chief of Defence Staff and that the statements attributed to him were false.
According to the statement, the video was created through artificial intelligence-generated manipulation and was apparently designed to deceive and mislead members of the public, misrepresent the position of the CDS and bring the Armed Forces of Nigeria into disrepute.
“The Defence Headquarters wishes to state unequivocally that the video is fake and did not emanate from the Chief of Defence Staff. The statements attributed to the CDS in the video are false and should be completely disregarded,” the statement said.
The DHQ reiterated that the Armed Forces of Nigeria remains a professional, apolitical and non-partisan institution committed to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the defence of the nation.
The Defence Headquarters also condemned what it described as the deliberate creation and circulation of the fabricated video, warning those behind its production and individuals knowingly amplifying the material to desist forthwith.
It urged members of the public not to be misled by the video and to rely only on information released through official Defence Headquarters channels for authentic information concerning the Armed Forces and the Chief of Defence Staff.
