Chelsea secured a 2–0 away victory over Everton on Saturday, October 17, 2026, with Pedro Neto scoring twice to end the hosts’ unbeaten start to the English Premier League season.
The victory at Hill Dickinson Stadium strengthened Chelsea’s push up the league table, provisionally moving the London club into fourth position after a disciplined performance against an Everton side that had remained unbeaten in its opening six league matches.
Neto opened the scoring just 44 seconds into the second half, capitalising on Chelsea’s improved attacking play after the interval to give the visitors the advantage.
The goal followed a move involving Morgan Rogers and Jorrel Hato, whose low delivery into the penalty area created the opportunity for Neto to finish past Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.
The first half had been a competitive encounter, with both teams struggling to find a breakthrough despite several promising attacking moments.
The opening period was marked by physical challenges, heated exchanges and multiple yellow cards as both sides battled for control of the midfield.
Everton threatened through their attacking players but failed to convert their opportunities, with striker Thierno Barry missing a significant chance to put the home side ahead before the break.
Chelsea also came close to scoring in the first half, gradually establishing greater attacking momentum as the contest progressed.
Following Neto’s opener, Everton attempted to respond by making changes in search of an equaliser. However, Chelsea maintained their defensive organisation and limited the hosts’ ability to create clear-cut scoring opportunities.
The visitors sealed the victory in the 90th minute when Neto completed his brace with a composed finish after Jordan Henderson’s free-kick was blocked by Everton’s defensive wall.
The Portuguese winger reacted quickly to the loose ball and found the bottom corner, securing all three points for Chelsea and handing Everton their first league defeat of the campaign.
However, the victory was overshadowed by an injury to Chelsea goalkeeper Emi Martinez, who was stretchered off following a collision with Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite during a second-half set-piece situation.
Martinez received medical attention on the pitch before being replaced by 21-year-old goalkeeper Mike Penders, who made his Premier League debut.
Despite the interruption, Chelsea maintained their concentration and prevented Everton from scoring, securing their first Premier League clean sheet in 23 matches.
The result marked an important step for Chelsea as they sought to build on their previous 5–1 victory over Bournemouth and establish greater consistency under manager Xabi Alonso.
For Everton, the defeat ended a promising unbeaten run and highlighted the challenge of maintaining their early-season momentum against strong opposition.
Chelsea will now look to build on the result as the Premier League campaign continues, while Everton will seek to recover from the setback and return to winning ways in their next fixture.
