The Federal Government has disbursed ₦38.93 billion to 166 public tertiary institutions across Nigeria under the Needs Assessment Revitalisation Fund to address critical infrastructure gaps and improve teaching and learning facilities.
The Federal Ministry of Finance disclosed this in a press release dated October 25, 2026, in Abuja, stating that the funds would support approved projects in universities, polytechnics and colleges of education nationwide.
According to the statement by Efe Ovuakporie, Director of press and public Relations at the Federal Ministry of Finance, the disbursement covers 79 universities, 46 polytechnics and 41 colleges of education, with the intervention designed to improve educational infrastructure and strengthen the quality of tertiary education in the country.
The breakdown shows that universities received the largest share of the allocation, with ₦28.5 billion earmarked for 79 institutions across the country.
Similarly, 46 polytechnics received allocations totalling ₦5.8 billion, while 41 colleges of education were allocated ₦4.7 billion under the funding arrangement.
The statement explained that the intervention forms part of the Federal Government’s efforts to address the infrastructure and operational needs of public tertiary institutions while supporting the implementation of agreed measures under the Memorandum of Understanding between the government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
It said the funds were expected to enable beneficiary institutions to commence new projects or advance approved ones aimed at addressing critical infrastructure deficiencies and other identified institutional needs.
The initiative is also intended to improve the learning environment for students and provide better facilities for academic and administrative activities across the beneficiary institutions.
The ministry noted that the successful implementation of the projects would contribute to strengthening the quality of tertiary education in Nigeria by addressing longstanding infrastructure challenges confronting public institutions.
It further emphasised the importance of effective coordination among the Federal Ministry of Finance, the Federal Ministry of Education and the beneficiary institutions to ensure that the funds translate into tangible improvements.
According to the statement, proper coordination and implementation of the approved projects would be critical to achieving the objectives of the intervention and ensuring that public resources deliver the intended benefits.
The government said the disbursement underscores its commitment to supporting public tertiary institutions and improving the conditions necessary for effective teaching, learning and institutional development.
The ministry also advised members of the public seeking further information on the beneficiary institutions and their respective allocations to visit its official website.
