The Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Dr Musa Adamu Aliyu, SAN, has called on officers of the Commission to strengthen accountability, uphold ethical standards and improve service delivery in their daily interactions with the public.

Aliyu made the call at the Commission’s 2026 Customer Service Week Symposium, held at its auditorium in Abuja, with the theme, “The Extra Mile.”

Represented by the Director of the Special Services Department, Prince Hassan Mohammed, the ICPC chairman stressed that delivering quality service must be a consistent responsibility of every officer rather than an effort limited to special occasions.

He noted that the Commission, as an anti-corruption agency, must demonstrate the values of integrity, fairness, transparency and professionalism it promotes in the public sector.

According to him, public trust in the Commission depends not only on its performance in tackling corruption but also on the manner in which its personnel attend to complaints, enquiries and other official requests from citizens and stakeholders.

Aliyu therefore urged officers to take personal responsibility for their duties by providing accurate information promptly, treating members of the public with respect, safeguarding confidential records and eliminating unnecessary delays in administrative processes.

He, however, warned that the commitment to going the extra mile must not be interpreted as permission to disregard established rules, compromise due process or extend undue privileges to individuals because of their positions, influence or personal relationships.

The chairman congratulated officers recognised for their outstanding contributions during the symposium and encouraged other personnel to remain dedicated to their responsibilities, irrespective of whether their efforts received immediate recognition.

He also challenged participants to translate discussions at the event into practical recommendations and measurable commitments that would produce sustainable improvements in the Commission’s operations.

In his remarks, the Secretary to the Commission, Mr Clifford Okwudiri Oparaodu, reaffirmed the ICPC’s commitment to effective and efficient service delivery, describing it as a major priority for the institution.

Oparaodu expressed confidence in the ability of the Commission’s personnel to achieve better results, noting that the ICPC’s second-place ranking in the 2025 SERVICOM assessment reflected its commitment to improving service standards.

He urged officers to sustain the momentum beyond the annual Customer Service Week, stressing that excellent service should become an integral part of the Commission’s organisational culture.

The Secretary, who was represented by the Commission’s spokesperson, maintained that service excellence must be reflected in the everyday conduct of personnel rather than treated as an achievement associated only with special events.

Earlier, the Acting National SERVICOM Coordinator, Mrs Helen Lawal, outlined the objectives of the 2026 Customer Service Week, urging officers to anticipate the needs of service users, respond promptly to enquiries and strengthen collaboration across departments to resolve complaints efficiently.

She explained that the initiative was designed to encourage innovation, promote continuous improvement and enhance engagement between public institutions and the people they serve.

Lawal added that recognising the contributions of frontline personnel and improving communication channels were essential to building public confidence and fostering a culture of accountability, integrity and efficiency.

The symposium ended with a renewed call for ICPC personnel to incorporate the principles of “The Extra Mile” into their daily responsibilities, ensuring that the Commission’s efforts to promote a corruption-free Nigeria are supported by responsive, fair and professional service delivery.
