The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has dismissed as fake a publication circulating online that purports to be a special announcement by the Commission concerning governorship candidates in six states.

The affected states are Zamfara, Gombe, Delta, Plateau, Yobe and Kano.

In a public notice, the Commission categorically stated that the publication did not originate from INEC, urging members of the public to disregard it and refrain from sharing the fraudulent information.

INEC clarified that any report suggesting it had issued a special announcement regarding governorship candidates in the six states was false.

The Commission advised Nigerians to rely exclusively on its official communication channels for accurate and verified electoral information, warning the public against being misled by fake announcements circulating on social media and other online platforms.

Members of the public were encouraged to verify electoral information through INEC’s official website, www.inecnigeria.org; Facebook page, INEC Nigeria; X and Instagram handles, @inecnigeria; and its news portal, www.inecnews.com.

For further enquiries and clarification, the Commission provided the following contact details: INEC Call Centre on 0700-2255-4632, short code 4632, telephone numbers 090844444333 and 09050858629, and email address iccc@inec.gov.ng.

INEC reaffirmed its commitment to providing Nigerians with accurate and reliable electoral information, urging citizens to remain vigilant and obtain updates only through its verified communication channels.
