The Commissioner for Environment, Solid Minerals and Mining in Nasarawa State, Hon. Princess Dr. Margaret Itake Elayo, has been honoured with an Award of Excellence by the Nigerian Association of Technologists in Engineering (NATE), in recognition of her commitment to technological innovation, sustainable development and initiatives aimed at improving living standards across the state.
The award was presented to the Commissioner in her office by the Chairman of the Nasarawa State Branch of NATE, Engr. Abdulkareem Kasah, who led members of the association to the ministry.
The recognition underscores Elayo’s efforts in supporting technological advancement and encouraging solutions capable of addressing developmental and environmental challenges confronting communities across Nasarawa State.
Reacting to the honour, Elayo expressed appreciation to NATE, describing the award as an encouragement to do more in the service of the people.
«“I receive this recognition with immense gratitude. I see it not only as an honour to me personally, but as encouragement to continue supporting innovation and initiatives that can improve the lives of our people.”»

The Commissioner said the recognition would further strengthen her resolve to work with relevant professional bodies and stakeholders in advancing sustainable development in Nasarawa State.
«“Technology and innovation have important roles to play in solving some of the challenges facing our communities. We must continue to encourage ideas and solutions that promote development while protecting our environment and improving the standard of living of our people.”»
Elayo dedicated the award to the staff of the Ministry of Environment, Solid Minerals and Mining, acknowledging their commitment and contributions to the ministry’s mandate.
«“I dedicate this award to the hardworking staff of the Ministry of Environment, Solid Minerals and Mining. Whatever recognition comes to me is also a recognition of the collective efforts of the team I am privileged to lead.”»
She also acknowledged the individuals and organisations that have continued to motivate and guide her in the discharge of her responsibilities.
«“I am grateful to everyone who continues to motivate, advise and guide me in service to Nasarawa State. Public service is a collective responsibility, and every contribution matters.”»
The award comes at a time when Nasarawa State is attracting increasing attention because of its rich solid mineral deposits and growing opportunities in the mining sector. It also highlights the importance of balancing economic development with environmental sustainability and responsible resource management.

As Commissioner, Elayo operates at the intersection of environmental protection, solid mineral development and mining, three areas that are critical to the state’s long-term economic and social development.
Her recognition by NATE also draws attention to the growing role of technology and technical expertise in addressing challenges associated with environmental management, mineral exploration and sustainable development.
For a state with significant mineral resources, collaboration between government and professional bodies such as NATE remains important in developing innovative approaches that can promote responsible exploitation of resources while protecting communities and the environment.
The honour further highlights the contribution of women to leadership in technical and development-oriented sectors, with Elayo demonstrating that effective leadership can combine policy, professional expertise, innovation and a strong commitment to public service.
Beyond the presentation ceremony, the NATE award represents an endorsement of the importance of partnerships between government, professional organisations, technologists, engineers and other stakeholders in building a more sustainable and prosperous Nasarawa State.
For Elayo, the recognition is another motivation to continue supporting policies and initiatives that place the welfare of the people at the centre of governance.
«“This award is a reminder that there is still much work to be done. We will continue to listen, learn, collaborate and pursue initiatives that will make a meaningful difference in the lives of our people.”»
By dedicating the honour to her ministry’s workforce, the Commissioner has made clear that the achievement belongs to a team whose collective efforts continue to drive the ministry’s mandate.
As Nasarawa State continues its pursuit of sustainable economic growth and responsible development, the recognition of Princess Dr. Margaret Itake Elayo by NATE offers a reminder that innovation, technical expertise and committed public leadership remain essential ingredients for improving the lives of citizens.
The award, therefore, is not only a celebration of Elayo’s contribution but also a recognition of the broader vision of building a Nasarawa State where technology, responsible resource management and environmental sustainability work together for the benefit of the people.
