A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Hajiya Maryam Shattima, has expressed confidence in the growing mobilisation of women across the country in support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Shattima spoke with journalists on Monday in Abuja during the Women Stakeholders’ Mobilisation and Empowerment Pre-Inaugural Summit held at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre.
The event, organised by First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu, brought together women leaders, grassroots mobilisers, support groups and other stakeholders from across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory as part of efforts to strengthen women’s participation and mobilisation ahead of 2027.
Speaking on the growing involvement of women in the political process, Shattima said she remained committed to supporting the APC administration and contributing to efforts aimed at taking the message of the government to the grassroots.
She said the mobilisation was not limited to political leaders in major cities, stressing that women and supporters were being reached across communities, streets and neighbourhoods.
According to her, the response from the grassroots demonstrated continued interest and support for President Tinubu and the APC administration.
Shattima said, “I am committed to supporting this APC government and to service. I have gone out to speak with people, and people from different places, communities and neighbourhoods have come out to show their support for me and for the government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”
Shattima said the support being expressed by the women would be sustained, assuring that those who had identified with the mobilisation would continue to work together.
She acknowledged that there were still challenges in the country but said the government was making efforts to address them, urging Nigerians to remain patient as ongoing programmes and reforms take effect.
The APC chieftain also stressed the importance of unity and collective action among women, saying that the strength of the mobilisation lies in bringing different support groups and grassroots structures together.
Her comments came against the backdrop of the summit, which marked a fresh phase in the mobilisation of women ahead of the 2027 elections.
At the gathering, the First Lady urged women to return to their respective communities and engage with the people on government programmes and policies.
The summit also provided a platform for different women support groups to work together, share ideas and strengthen their grassroots structures.
Shattima said the gathering offered an opportunity for women from different backgrounds and support groups to unite around a common objective and contribute to the political mobilisation process.
She said the women would continue to engage with the people at the grassroots, adding that the support being built across communities would be sustained, Insha Allah.
Shattima’s remarks reflected the wider emphasis at the event on grassroots mobilisation, women’s participation and the coordination of various support groups ahead of the 2027 political season.
