The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has unveiled two technology-driven initiatives aimed at strengthening financial-fraud reporting, police communication and operational response across the country.
The initiatives, the NPF Vigilant App and the NPF–MTN Closed User Group (CUG) Network, were launched on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, at the NPF Conference Centre, Jabi, Abuja.
The IGP said the initiatives represented another practical step in the Nigeria Police Force’s ongoing digital-transformation drive, stressing that technology remained critical to building a more connected, responsive and effective police service.
The NPF Vigilant App, developed through the Force ICT Department in collaboration with stakeholders in the financial-services ecosystem, provides members of the public with a platform to promptly report suspected financial fraud.
The application allows users to submit complaints, upload relevant evidence, track reported cases and receive feedback, while also supporting coordination between the police and relevant institutions in accordance with existing laws and procedures.
The NPF–MTN CUG Network, meanwhile, is designed to provide police personnel nationwide with secure and affordable on-net communication. The initiative is expected to improve communication among commands, formations and units, particularly in emergency situations and during operational activities.
Speaking at the launch, IGP Disu said the two platforms were designed to address practical challenges in policing by improving both public engagement and internal communication within the Force.
He noted that the Vigilant App would provide Nigerians with a more accessible avenue for reporting suspected financial fraud, while the CUG Network would enhance communication and coordination among police personnel across the country.
The Inspector-General also emphasised the need for technology to be deployed lawfully, ethically and responsibly, with due regard for citizens’ rights, privacy, data protection and accountability.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to sustained collaboration with government agencies, financial institutions, technology companies and other private-sector stakeholders in developing innovative solutions to improve public safety and national security.
The Force urged Nigerians to download the NPF Vigilant App from the Google Play Store and Apple App Store and use it responsibly to report suspected cases of financial fraud.
The launch was attended by representatives of the Central Bank of Nigeria, the Presidential Committee on Economic and Financial Inclusion, the Police Service Commission, Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System, financial institutions, fintech companies, MTN Nigeria, Vigilant Technology Limited, TIMPH International Limited and other stakeholders.
IGP Disu said the deployment of the digital platforms underscored the determination of the Nigeria Police Force to embrace innovation and strategic partnerships in delivering more accessible, responsive, people-centred and effective policing services to Nigerians.
