AThe Commissioner, Nasarawa State Ministry of Environment, Solid Minerals and Mining, Princess Dr. Margaret Elayo, has commended two retiring senior officers of the ministry for their dedication, selflessness and contributions to the development of the civil service.
Elayo gave the commendation at a farewell ceremony organised in honour of the Director, Department of Forestry, Mallam Ahmed E., and his Deputy Director, Mr. David Anzaku, following their retirement from active civil service.
The commissioner described the two retirees as dedicated public servants who distinguished themselves through years of sacrifice, commitment to duty and peaceful leadership.
According to her, the retirees demonstrated “a rare kind of leadership in the civil service circle,” adding that they consistently gave their best towards advancing the mandate of the ministry.
She said, “They demonstrated selflessness and sacrifice, not just in giving their best to drive the mandate of the Ministry, but also in mentoring younger staff to become even better than them.”
Elayo noted that although the ministry would greatly miss their wealth of experience and peaceful disposition, their contributions had created a lasting impression among members of staff.
She said the testimonies presented by both senior and junior staff during the farewell ceremony further demonstrated the positive impact the two officers had made throughout their years of service.
“Reflecting on the testimonies from both senior and junior staff about the two retirees, I am encouraged to charge all civil servants and public office holders to strive to leave behind a legacy that speaks volumes about their impact long after they have left office,” she said.
The commissioner stressed the importance of leaving a positive legacy in public service, urging serving officers to see their positions as opportunities to make meaningful contributions to their organisations and society.
She said public servants should not only focus on the responsibilities attached to their offices but should also contribute to the growth and development of those coming behind them.
Elayo expressed appreciation to Mallam Ahmed and Mr. Anzaku for their years of dedicated service to Nasarawa State and wished them peaceful, healthy and fulfilling retirement.
“I wish Mallam Ahmed and Mr. Anzaku a peaceful, healthy and fulfilling retirement,” the commissioner said.
