The Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) has partnered with the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to sensitise newly recruited officers on integrity, accountability, transparency and ethical conduct in public service.

The five-day sensitisation and capacity-building workshop, organised by the Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU) of RMAFC in collaboration with the ICPC, commenced on Monday, September 14, 2026, and is scheduled to run until September 18, 2026, at Bafra Hotel, Kaduna State.

According to a press statement by the Head, Information and Public Relations, RMAFC, Maryam Umar Yusuf, forwarded to Oxford Reporters said, the workshop is part of the Commission’s broader institutional efforts to promote a strong culture of integrity and compliance with the principles of legality, accountability, transparency and due process within the public service.

The programme is targeted at newly recruited officers at the Commission’s headquarters and state offices across the North-West geopolitical zone, with the objective of equipping them with the knowledge, skills and ethical orientation required to effectively discharge their responsibilities.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, RMAFC Chairman, Dr. Mohammed Bello Shehu, represented by the Federal Commissioner representing Kwara State and Provost of ACTU in the Commission, Hon. Ismail Muhammed Agaka, welcomed participants to the programme and conveyed the Chairman’s appreciation to the ICPC for its continued partnership with the Commission in strengthening integrity, accountability and transparency in public service.

Shehu noted that the constitutional responsibilities entrusted to RMAFC place the Commission at the centre of Nigeria’s fiscal governance, requiring its officers to demonstrate not only competence and diligence but also an uncompromising commitment to integrity.

He stressed that public trust is earned when public officers discharge their responsibilities honestly, transparently and responsibly in the overall interest of the nation.

The Chairman further emphasised that the fight against corruption should not be regarded as the sole responsibility of ACTU or the ICPC, but as a collective responsibility shared by every public officer entrusted with public resources, official responsibilities and the affairs of government.

“Every decision we take, every public resource we handle and every official process we undertake must withstand the tests of legality, accountability, fairness and transparency,” he said.

Shehu explained that corruption does not manifest only through bribery or diversion of public funds, but can also take the form of abuse of office, conflict of interest, favouritism, manipulation of official processes and deliberate disregard for established rules and procedures.

He therefore charged the newly recruited officers to develop a culture in which integrity is not merely preached but consistently demonstrated through their daily conduct, professional decisions and interactions with members of the public.

The Chairman urged the participants to take full advantage of the five-day programme by deepening their knowledge, actively engaging with resource persons and translating the lessons acquired into improved professional conduct and service delivery.

“As officers of the Commission, we must be above reproach. Let integrity guide our decisions, accountability define our actions, and service to the Nation remain our overriding commitment,” he said.

He also encouraged the participants to regard the workshop as an important foundation for their professional careers and to demonstrate humility, mutual respect and professionalism in their dealings with colleagues and members of the public.

In his welcome address, the Chairman of ACTU in RMAFC, Dr. Idris Musa, emphasised the need for every public servant to recognise the fight against corruption as a collective responsibility.

Musa urged participants to ensure that their decisions and actions were consistently guided by integrity and accountability in the interest of the nation.

He cautioned officers against practices capable of undermining public confidence in government institutions, including abuse of office, conflict of interest, favouritism, manipulation of official processes and deliberate disregard for established rules and procedures.

The ACTU Chairman called on the participants to uphold transparency and accountability in the handling of public resources and execution of official responsibilities, stressing that the conduct of public officers must continually justify the confidence and trust reposed in them by Nigerians.

Representing the ICPC at the occasion, Assistant Director, Public Education, Dr. Anike Adeshina, said the sensitisation workshop formed part of the broader anti-corruption drive of the Federal Government designed, among other objectives, to induct new staff into a culture of ethical and responsible public service.

She said the programme would strengthen participants’ understanding of the importance of conducting government business in accordance with established laws, regulations, procedures and ethical standards.

According to her, participants were expected to develop a deeper appreciation of the need to promote and protect integrity within the workplace while actively rejecting practices that contradict the ethics of the public service.

Adeshina commended the RMAFC leadership for organising the workshop and sustaining collaboration with the ICPC in promoting ethical standards and accountability within public institutions.

Some participants who spoke at the workshop expressed optimism that the five-day sensitisation and capacity-building programme would enhance their ethical conduct and improve the quality of service delivery within the Commission.

Speaking on his expectations, Aminu Sani, an Accountant at the RMAFC Zamfara State Office, said the training would provide him with additional knowledge and experience to effectively discharge his responsibilities.

Similarly, Aminu Ibrahim Imam, a Manager and Chartered Accountant in the Audit Department, identified accountability, transparency and integrity as key values expected to guide participants in the discharge of their duties.

He noted that these principles were particularly important to the work of RMAFC, given the Commission’s critical role in the management and allocation of the nation’s revenue.
