The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has commenced a three-day stocktake meeting aimed at strengthening its institutional preparedness for Nigeria’s forthcoming Mutual Evaluation Exercise on Money Laundering, Terrorist Financing and Proliferation Financing (ML/TF/PF).
The Commission said in a terse statement that the meeting is holding from September 14 to 16, 2026, at the Commission’s Headquarters in Abuja.
The meeting brings together relevant departments, units and teams within the ICPC to review the level of preparedness ahead of the evaluation exercise and assess progress on areas relevant to the Commission’s responsibilities.
The Commission said the session is also intended to strengthen coordination among the various departments and teams, while ensuring that necessary institutional mechanisms are in place to support an effective and coordinated response during the evaluation.
The stocktake provides an opportunity for the Commission to assess ongoing activities, identify outstanding areas requiring attention and enhance collaboration among its relevant operational and technical units.
The Mutual Evaluation Exercise is an important process through which a country’s measures for combating money laundering, terrorist financing and proliferation financing are assessed, including the effectiveness of its legal, institutional and operational frameworks.
The ongoing preparations underscore the importance of strengthening anti-corruption and financial crime prevention mechanisms as Nigeria continues efforts to improve its overall response to illicit financial activities.
The three-day meeting is expected to further consolidate the Commission’s preparations, improve internal coordination and position relevant departments and teams to effectively participate in the evaluation process.
The ICPC’s move comes as Nigeria prepares to demonstrate the effectiveness of its institutional frameworks and enforcement mechanisms in addressing money laundering, terrorist financing and proliferation financing.
