ABUJA — Women mobilisation groups within the All Progressives Congress (APC) have begun consolidating their structures ahead of the 2027 general elections, with a call for more women and political support groups to join the emerging movement.

The call was made at the Women Stakeholders’ Mobilisation and Empowerment Pre-Inaugural Summit held on Monday at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre, Abuja, where APC women leaders, political stakeholders, grassroots mobilisers and representatives of various support groups converged to strengthen women’s participation in the 2027 political process.

The programme was convened by Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, under the Women Mobilisation Directorate of the 2027 APC Presidential Campaign Council.

The summit, themed “Renewed Hope Agenda 2.0: From Reforms to Prosperity,” with the mobilisation message, “One Voice, One Movement, One Choice, One Mandate 2027,” brought together women stakeholders from across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

Speaking at the gathering, Hajiya Safiyya Isah Mohammed, Senior Special Assistant to the Executive Governor of Plateau State, described the coming together of the various women mobilisation groups as an important development in preparations for 2027.

Mohammed urged women and other political stakeholders who were yet to identify with the mobilisation effort to come on board, stressing that the political process required collective participation.

“Gentlemen and women, come on board. We all need you. Don’t be scared. This job is for everybody,” she said.

She explained that the gathering provided an avenue for the amalgamation of several campaign and support groups that had previously operated under different platforms, saying the development would create a broader structure for political mobilisation.

According to her, bringing the groups together was particularly important because of the role women play in communities and grassroots political engagement.

She said women should not underestimate their influence, adding that empowering women could translate into wider social and political impact.

“Is it the best way of going for 2027? It is the best way because you don’t know the power of a woman. A woman, when you empower a woman, you empower a nation,” Mohammed said.

She added that women possessed the potential and determination to influence positive changes when given the opportunity and necessary support.

The development came as the APC stepped up its women mobilisation efforts ahead of the 2027 elections, with the First Lady using the Abuja gathering to bring different women support structures into a more coordinated campaign framework.

At the summit, Senator Oluremi Tinubu said previously separate women support groups had been collapsed into one structure under the APC Presidential Women Campaign Council, including groups such as Tinubu Again and Torch Bearers.

She said the new structure would coordinate mobilisation for APC candidates from the Presidency to governorship, National Assembly and State Assembly elections.

The First Lady also called on APC women to return to their respective communities and strengthen grassroots mobilisation, while emphasising the need for women to work together as a united force.

The summit also provided a platform for discussions around empowerment, political participation and the impact of government programmes on women, youths and other segments of society.

The gathering attracted women leaders, professionals, entrepreneurs, grassroots organisers, political actors, community representatives and members of various support groups.

For Mohammed, the message was clear: women must not remain on the sidelines of the political process but should actively participate, organise and contribute to shaping the political direction of their communities and the country ahead of 2027.

She therefore urged more women to join the mobilisation effort, stressing that collective participation remained essential to building a stronger and more coordinated political structure.
