The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has improved its standing in Nigeria’s public sector transparency ranking, scoring 80.13 per cent in the 2026 Transparency and Integrity Index (TII).

According to a statement by the Head of Media and Public Communications, ICPC, J. Okor Odey, made available to journalists in Abuja, the Commission placed second among 518 federal institutions assessed nationwide by the Centre for Fiscal Transparency and Public Integrity (CeFTPI).

The statement said ICPC was among only four institutions that attained the “Excellent” performance band of 70 per cent and above in the 2026 assessment.

The latest score represents an improvement on the Commission’s 2025 performance, when it recorded 78.13 per cent and ranked third among 575 institutions assessed.

Reacting to the development, the ICPC Chairman, Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, SAN, said the rating was an encouragement for the Commission to deepen its institutional reforms and transparency measures.

He said as an anti-corruption agency, ICPC must demonstrate the principles of transparency, accountability and integrity within its own systems and operations while demanding the same standards from other public institutions.

Aliyu said the Commission would examine its performance across the thematic areas covered by the index and strengthen areas requiring further improvement, with the objective of achieving a higher rating in the 2027 assessment.

The ICPC chairman also commended the management and staff of the Commission for their contributions to the achievement, urging them to see the rating as motivation to further strengthen transparency, accountability and professionalism in carrying out the Commission’s mandate.

According to the statement, the 2026 assessment showed that only eight of the 518 institutions evaluated scored above 50 per cent, while just four attained the “Excellent” benchmark of 70 per cent and above.

The Transparency and Integrity Index assesses public institutions on areas including disclosure of financial information, procurement and contracting, human resources, anti-corruption measures and mechanisms for citizens’ engagement.

It also examines the availability of budget and financial records, recruitment and staff information, whistleblowing policies, as well as channels through which citizens can access information and participate in public processes.

The statement noted that ICPC’s latest result continues an upward trajectory in the annual assessment. In 2025, the Commission ranked third with 78.13 per cent, behind the National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency (NOSDRA) and the Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission (NIPC).

The 2026 Transparency and Integrity Index was unveiled in Abuja on Monday, September 28, 2026, with the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume; Director-General of the Bureau of Public Service Reforms, Dasuki Ibrahim Arabi; and representatives of government institutions and civil society organisations in attendance.

CeFTPI established the Transparency and Integrity Index in 2021 as an annual evidence-based assessment of public institutions, focusing on proactive disclosure, accountability, citizens’ access to information and institutional mechanisms for preventing corruption.
